State-owned Enterprises and Climate Change
Santiago, Región Metropolitana de Santiago, Chile
Información sólo disponible en inglés.
State-owned enterprises (SOEs) are major emitters of GHGs. According to recent research conducted by Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy, SOEs emit over 6.2 GTCO2-eq of GHGs, more than the total energy emissions of any country except China. They are also major suppliers of low-carbon alternatives, including utility-scale renewables. The event will analyze the role that SOEs will need to play to achieve national and international climate goals, as well as the opportunities and challenges in engaging these companies in the low-carbon transition.
At this event, held in the context of COP25, experts from Columbia’s Center on Global Energy Policy, together with representatives of state-owned enterprises and other international experts, will discuss strategies to engage SOEs in the climate effort.
